The Land-at-Scale project visited Gunmaku with the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Colombia

On October 25, the Land-at-Scale team in Colombia and Ernst Noorman, Ambassador of the Netherlands in Colombia, visited the indigenous territory of Gunmaku, in the municipality of Aracataca, as part of the coordination of the project by the Embassy.

Land-at-Scale is a project that seeks to support land administration processes in the territories, strengthening environmental protection and building capacities for economic development. The project, led by Kadaster, ICCO and Tropenbos, is currently working in the Gunmaku community, Aracataca, and the Resguardo La Teófila, Solano.

During the visit, the ambassador learned about the progress of each of the project's approaches: territorial appropriation, sustainable production and care for the environment.  In terms of territorial appropriation, young indigenous people have been trained in land measurements and mapping, Kadaster provided the community with GPS and collection devices so that they can measure and recognize their territories using technological tools.

Coffee grown throughout the Serankua basin (comprising the Gunmaku, Dwanaimaku and Serankua peoples) was the product chosen for the sustainable production approach, and the community and the ambassador were able to participate in the tasting of the coffee grown in these areas. In terms of environmental care, actions have been carried out to document the changes in vegetation cover over the last few decades.
