Socialization of the field measurements of La Teófila Reserve, Caquetá
An event was held in Florencia to socialize the results of the work carried out by the Makaguaje and Koreguaje indigenous communities, where the data collected in the field was presented. Within the Land-at-Scale project, Kadaster had already organized various meetings with the authorities of La Teofila Reserve, identifying the need to correct the current polygon and gather information for the expansion and establishment of a new reserve (Nueva Betania). In July of the current year, a capacity-building process was conducted to enhance skills in using technological tools for spatial data collection according to the Fit for Purpose land administration approach.
After obtaining results in Septemberr 2023 and analyzing the collected information, three situations were identified concerning polygons, titles, and territorial aspirations:
1. Displacement of the reserve polygon: Discrepancies between institutional geographic information and physical data collected by the community.
2. Expansion of the reserve: The community identified the area for the expansion of La Teófila Reserve.
3. Establishment of La Nueva Betania Reserve: The community identified the zone for the establishment of La Nueva Betania Reserve.
During a socialization event that was organized in Florencia in November 2023, with leaders from both Indigenous communities, women leaders, and partners Icco Conexión, Tropenbos and ACT, Kadaster socialized the results of the community's data collection in the territory, including the obtained points and polygons. This information was analyzed and validated by the authorities and members of the Koreguaje and Makaguaje communities. Additionally, a dialogue took place between the Koreguaje and Makaguaje communities to find joint solutions and be able to advance with their aspirations. Key steps included the official submission of the expansion request to the National Land Agency (ANT) and the submission of the polygon for the constitution of Nueva Betania to the same agency. The event also involved a comprehensive presentation of the Land-at-scale project, highlighting its various components and progress togeteher with the project partners.
